I call myself an “Insider,” meaning I’m employed by an organization and working in a learning and development role. For those who care to distinguish between vendors, consultants, and practitioners, I’m a practitioner. In short, I’m not trying to sell anything, nor am I marketing myself or services. I write here solely to work out my thoughts about organizational learning from my insider perspective. It’s a learning and working out loud medium for me.
I try to write a few times each month on topics related to learning in the workplace. Inspiration for writing usually comes from one encounter or another that starts me thinking and synthesizing new thoughts, merging the new with prior knowledge. Occasionally my thoughts are tangential to the organizational training function, but still relevant (like speaking in public or writing). As a result, my post topics will vary, but I’ll try to stay close to the theme of workplace learning as much as possible.
I also encourage feedback through comments or tweets. That helps me learn more effectively, and I do my best to return the favor as part of the unwritten contract that is social learning.
For over eighteen years, I’ve been developing learning strategies, educational products, and instructional designs for the Learning Systems Center of The Aerospace Institute, the educational division of The Aerospace Corporation. I also facilitate learning public speaking and communication skills in the classroom and increasingly online using social media.
I earned my Ph.D. from Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut, and my B.S. from the University of California at Riverside.
